Person airlifted to hospital in critical condition after crash on County Durham road

Emergency services were called to a crash just outside Consett at around 10.20am on Sunday (September 3) following reports of a serious crash, near the A692 and A68. 

Alongside police and paramedics, the Great North Air Ambulance was sent to the scene, where it was confirmed that one person was taken to the RVI in Newcastle in critical condition.

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “Yesterday (August 3) at 10.20am, both our helicopter and critical care car responded to reports of a traffic collision near Consett, County Durham.

“While pilot Stu, paramedic Marcus and Dr Ally were en route via our helicopter, the team received information from the scene that the patient was critically ill; in response, our critical care car was also deployed to provide the crew with further support.

“Our helicopter arrived at the scene within 20 minutes, and our response vehicle joined ten minutes later.

“Both teams worked together to stabilise the patient by taking over their airway before airlifting them to the RVI in Newcastle for further treatment.”
